Start outside — clear woodpiles, leaf litter, and dense brush away from your foundation, since these are prime hiding spots for wolf spiders and hobo spiders common in the Treasure Valley. Seal gaps around window frames, door thresholds, and utility line entry points with caulk or weatherstripping; spiders squeeze through spaces you’d swear were too small.
Inside, reduce clutter in basements, garages, and closets. Boxes stacked against walls create the dark, undisturbed spaces spiders love. Vacuum corners, baseboards, and window sills regularly to remove webs and egg sacs before they hatch. Outdoor lighting matters too — bright bulbs attract flying insects, which in turn attract spiders looking for an easy meal. Switch to yellow or sodium-vapor bulbs near entryways.
