- Bald-Faced Hornets – Technically a yellowjacket species and not a true hornet, these insects are black and white, and they can grow up to ¾ inch long. Bald-faced hornets are fast flying and can be extremely aggressive. They build large ball-shaped paper nests in high up places, often hanging from tree branches or roofs.
- Mud Daubers – These solitary wasps are primarily black with yellowish or bluish markings, and they have slender bodies that can be 1 inch long. Mud daubers are non-aggressive spider hunters, but their nesting habits can make them a nuisance. This Idaho wasp species builds mud tube nests under eaves, attics, and walls.
